Green Infrastructure in Hungary
Green infrastructure in a young democracy
Landscape architecture in Hungary has traditionally been approached and viewed as an engineering specialty existing in its own particular professional vacuum without interaction with other professions such as architects, environmental professionals, energy producers, public health professionals, educators or the public.
An interesting added dimension is Hungary being one of the relatively new democracies of the former Eastern Bloc, with a young and inexperienced civil sector. So there were two critical aspects being addressed: the understanding on the part of policymakers and leaders -- as well as the general public -- of green spaces as an integral part of a multifunctional system, and the public’s sense of stewardship and participation in their design and use.
